New work could mean more problems on Village Road

LELAND, NC (WWAY) -- More trouble for drivers on Village Road in Leland. Two years after road work led to lots of congestion, it now appears that more work needs to be done.

Crews were working on drilling a hole for a sewer line under the road today and filling it with mud when it buckled. They had to block off part of one lane near Old Fayetteville Road.

In 2011, crews doing improvements on a nearby stretch of the road messed up a median and had to redo a big part of the work.

Neighboring business owners we talked with say they just wish the problems could be permanently fixed.

"This is going to be tough," said Bob Collins, who owns Mr. Frosty's Subs and Ice Cream. "This isn't going to be an overnight fix. This is going to be down for some period, and I'm not sure how it's going to affect us."

Collins says several restaurants in the area were forced to shut their doors because of the road construction.

We're waiting to hear back from Brunswick County on how long this round of work could take.
