NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (AP) — It’s not clear if Harry Potter will be there and the brooms don’t fly, but the International Quidditch Association’s World Cup will be held next spring in North Myrtle Beach.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that the association’s website says the event will be held April 5 and 6. North Myrtle Beach was selected over Kissimmee, Fla., which hosted last year’s cup.
Quidditch is a real life version of the game portrayed in the Harry Potter movies. The co-ed contact sport features seven-member teams who play with brooms between their legs. It draws elements from ruby, dodgeball and tag.
The game created in 2005 at Middlebury College, VT, is played by teams at more than 300 universities and high schools in North America, Australia and Europe.
