Boardwalk vendors prepare for the end of tourist season

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) – Pleasure Island is one of the regions favorite beaches. Business owners say this summer was a successful one.

As the height of the local tourism season comes to an end, local owners are already looking ahead to next year.

“We had a good summer, except for the weather. Unfortunately, you cannot fight the rain,” said Patrick Wise.

Wise and his family have spent the past 5 summers operating the Carolina Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park.

“We have seen many more families coming back around and we’re just trying to grow and hopefully the town will grow with us,” said Wise.

Wise and his crew will soon be breaking down and moving on as the peak tourist season comes to an end.

Lou Belo has spent the past 9 seasons running Krazy Kones and says she is sad the fun is almost over.

“It hasn’t been bad, no record breakers, but it hasn’t been a busy summer,” said Belo.

Both Wise and Belo say business could have been better.

“Well the weather caused them to cancel the fireworks quite a bit,” said Belo.

And as they prepare for next year, Wise says his team is looking forward to doing it all over again.

“Our main goal is to get families here, and to make sure everybody has a good time,” said Wise.

Thursday, August 29 will be the final summer concert series featuring Spare Change.

Fireworks will take place Friday, August 30th.
