WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are searching for a couple of suspects they say pulled a gun on a taxi driver, and forced him to drive to different places in the area early Wednesday morning.

Wilmington police were notified of the crime around 6:30 a.m. They say it all started when a Beach Buggy Taxi driver picked up two men in his cab. After getting into the vehicle, police say the suspect in the front, passenger seat pulled a gun on the driver.

The suspect with the gun then demanded the cabby drive them to several locations in the area, finally ending up at the Roses on Carolina Beach Rd, according to police. That’s when they say the two men jumped out of the cab and took off.

No word on what the suspects got away with.

007 (J. Bond) would have hit the “Ejector Button” for both passengers…and that would have been that!
Was there a sale at Roses and not the other locations?

you wouldn’t be quite so glib with your remarks.

Drove one back in the eighties in NYC to supplement my income and it was no picnic.

Saying “ha,ha” from behind the protection of a computer keyboard doesn’t get my respect for you on this one.

Not surprised in that seedy, skank neighborhood. They should be more careful with people who want to be dropped off in that neighborhood…What a dump!

I was born and raised on the Southside of Wilmington in part Sunset Park
this use to be the best park of town,if it has got to the place of trashy, it is because trash moved in ,it hasn’t always been there.but there are still good hard working locals living in the area that have been there for years and years,so maybe the city of Wilmington needs to do there part and put the trash out,run all the transplants out,all the drug dealers and maybe that part of Wilmington can return to the way it use to be ,All theses transplants and drug dealers come here and ruin everything and then complain about it,Go Back Home and take your drug dealers with you,we were fine before ya’ll come and stayed and once you leave we will be fine again. But what we locals don’t appreciate is people coming here and calling our town trashy go back where you come from and maybe the trash will blow with you.

When WWAY starts reporting full/complete stories, I will keep my Wisenheimer remarks at bay.
No pun was meant against the cab driver. I had a roommate years ago that drove a cab…and have heard many stories as well.
This story has all the makings of a mistrial…the description of the assailants is **missing** (for example).

As with so many stories reported there…the ending, and so much in between, is missing…and usually stays that way. It’s my “Hidden Behind the Keyboard” right though, as you might label…to bring out the negligence of News reporting when it deserves it. Furthermore…I’m not the only one that does either. You will breeze read through News of importance a lot of times…then ask yourself…”what was that all about…what happened?”
This opens the door of opportunity for readers to become Judge and Jury…get all festered up and pissed off…and the complete facts have yet to be disclosed of a news report. I chose to make pun with some. Just that simple.

Being an ole New Yorker as you are (I have been there and loved it by the way…no redneck remarks forthcoming), answer me just one question…..
What is it about Wilmington that attracts so many New Yorkers to move there?
(IMO) It can’t be the pay in the job market…can’t be good sound government and infrastructure…can’t be the love of tropical storm threats. Must be the Real Estate fliers swarming the New York Metro area no doubt, with bargain basement prices.
What is it???

Read through my posts and you’ll find more than just a few that address the concept of reportorial incompetency by our local news sources (e.g.: “Man robs UNCW student 8/27/2013), so we agree on that one big time. Didn’t really pick up on that in your post though. Oh well.

As to why Wilmington from Mid-town Manhattan after a decade and a half: Got older. Looking to slow down the pace a bit. Work for myself so the low paying job market didn’t matter. Do business up and down the southeast and mid-Atlantic coast and it’s centrally located. Weather’s warmer than NYC, yet there still are seasons. Great beaches (even living in NYC, I’d still drive to a beach on weekends. Now it’s a 5 min trip vs. 1 1/2 hours and the beach season is longer). Never, ever saw a real estate flyer from here. Visited a friend at the beach and liked it. The area’s still got a small town feel to it, which is what I grew up with. Been here for quite some time now and perceive it as home. If I didn’t live here, I’d live in Charleston; another great town I spend a lot of time in.

I’m so glad the cab driver didn’t get harmed..and I hope these 2 lowlifes get caught and sent to prison, or
get the heck beat out of them, couple of cowards.

I believe ALL patrons should be photographed immediately upon entering the vehicles with “cabbie’s” cell phone and transmitted to “base” before carrying anyone anywhere…MAYBE then we would have an accurate description of the suspects- then their pictures coulda been broadcasted on the news before the story even appeared on the news? just an idea?…This is such a crazy world we live in!!! Sad but true!!
