WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say employees at a bar downtown caught two customers using counterfeit money to buy drinks early Wednesday.

They say around 1:15 a.m., employees at the Whiskey Bar flagged down officers driving by on Front Street. That’s when they say employees told them two customers paid for drinks in counterfeit bills.

According to police, the manager said the same subjects had previously used a credit card that was declined, and left before they checked to be sure their tab was paid.

Christopher Pringle and Matthew Wallace are charged with obtaining property by false pretense. Police say they found another counterfeit $100 bill on Pringle at the time of the arrest.

Jail records show Pringle is also charged with defrauding an innkeeper and consuming alcohol under 21.

According to arrest records, this is not Pringle’s first run-in with the law. Records show he hit a patrol car in the Sandbar Lounge parking lot last month when officers got calls about a man with a gun.

The officer was not hurt when it happened, but Pringle now faces more charges, and is back in the New Hanover County Jail under $500 secured bond.

Most likely, you will read what else he does next month…after he’s released from these charges.
Anyone here ever see the movie “Raising Arizona”? H.I. McDunnough (Nicolas Cage) came and went several times to jail…just like this guy.
“The doors will swing wide H.I.”…as said by the parole board (several times)…Ha!
