Wilmington police investigate two armed robberies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington police are investigating two armed robberies that happened early Saturday morning. Lieutenant Green says both the Scotchman gas station at 310 South College Road, and the Handee Hugo/Spirit station were robbed at gunpoint.

Green says a short, light skinned black or Hispanic male in dark clothing robbed the Scotchman with a handgun before getting away.

Then, a little before 4 A.M., Joanna Moyer, store manager at the Handee Hugo/Spirit station says a man of stocky build dressed in black and wearing a ski mask, and white gloves robbed the store.

Police say the suspect had a semi-automatic weapon, and approached an employee who was outside of the store smoking a cigarette.

The suspect took the employee into the store to clear out the register. Moyer says the suspect made off with all of the money in the register, and one-hundred dollars from the store's safe.

Police say the suspect was last seen running from the gas station towards Burnett Blvd.
