NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brian Berger statement regarding Judge Gale issued Order, dated September 5, 2013:

“I’m grateful to have been reinstated to the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners I was elected to and continuing to fulfill the public service and civic obligation that compelled me to sacrifice so much for the greater good. It’s no secret the conduct of some people in elected office, public positions serving North Carolina government, and disingenuous opportunists within New Hanover County, representing the people of New Hanover County in the N.C. General Assembly, and representing the people of North Carolina in positions of authority at all levels of American government, even in the U.S. Congress, was reprehensible. The conduct of these officials from Wilmington is not only illegal, it also violates the spirit of the Constitution of the United States, N.C. Constitution, and a host of Federal & State laws intended to prevent this kind of ongoing abuse of authority under “color of law,” stripping citizens of their God-given liberties, civil rights, and undermining the very concept of democracy.

“I am eager to return to public service and being a public servant should involve sacrifice, not land deals and more riches for attorneys and special interests in government. Governor McCrory and Attorney General Roy Cooper of N.C. have enabled this abuse of power by County Chair Woody White and his cohorts to go far enough. White, with a silent Governor watching, alleging contrary to all evidence and my support of both McCrory and Cooper, that I attempted to assassinate the Governor of N.C. with “drool.”

This is the absurdity of politics in North Carolina in 2013, and people are justified in asking questions about their “leaders.”

“I have no violent history, ever, not even a predisposition to violence, or even threatening anybody, as demonstrated by many decades of actual actions and conduct prior to being elected by the People of North Carolina to serve them in 2010 my record was a couple minor traffic violations, only. To be called a “terrorist” and “serial killer,” accused of taking “women and children hostage at knifepoint on illicit street drugs,” torturing children, and having a very personal and private medical disability exploited by fellow Commissioners now deciding major public policies, and now including a sitting State Governor, apparently not sufficient aware of evidence contradicting his assassination by my “drool,” is beyond words. County chair White and Gov. McCrory, as well as their partners are well-aware, led by White, Beth Dawson and unelected Tom Wolfe, (Autism-related communication deficiencies with zero predisposition to harming anyone), that the “case” they wasted taxpayers’ money on is based almost entirely on absurd, proven false accusations completely fictitious in content and politically-motivated to silence the only independent-minded member of the County’s five-member governing body. I cannot do justice to the pain and suffering such treatment and discrimination has brought my family and me…nobody deserves to be mistreated that way.

“Citizens deserve honesty from their government and not what currently dominates politics in New Hanover County, N.C. today, permeates the County’s State House delegation, and is altogether absurd and criminal in its nature and dishonest ‘representatives.’ I can handle the cold, hard floor of a jail cell and homelessness, sacrifices I’ve made since taking office promising to reform historical corruption in County government, and to do the “right thing,” but no elected official should ever be put in that position.”

“For two years, I have been given the silent treatment and had no contact whatsoever with the only one of 1600 employees willing to lie under oath, and that threat was a written statement that County employees should be expected to abide by the law, which is not an unreasonable statement. Twisting that and manipulating it and inventing things to make it sound like I made some kind of threat to anyone’s safety crossed the bounds of integrity and was one of many attempts to invent any link between me and violence since none actually exists. If that isn’t perjury and illegal, honor and integrity should be upheld by White, the bonus-receiving witness who lied or so-manipulated facts that there was clearly a planned, deliberate effort to mislead the public via this immoral deception – taking advantage of a negative stereotype that has no basis whatsoever in truth or facts. Instead of accountability, these lies earned the only witness willing to lie to such a massive extent received a very large “merit” raise recently.

“I will be continuing to call for appropriate responses from Federal and N.C. authorities to investigate corruption and misconduct by officials in Southeast N.C. which is long overdue, but I also believe it is time to face the future. Decency should be all that is required to take corrective actions for illegal discrimination and rights violations, and to expose corruption and government officials’ abuses of power whenever and wherever they surface, regardless of the victim and basis for the bigotry by officials who acted in violation of the laws of the land.

“It is time to look forward and move forward and work together with my colleagues (which should not be hampered in any way by a Federal investigation and intervention, as appropriate). There’s enough hate and hostility in the world and I refuse to add to it. I’m asking others to join me in not adding to it and praying for it to end and pray for peace”

Judge Gale was right in his “Order” issued late in the day Sept. 5th, to overturn after the massive wasteful spending on an absurd plan to eliminate minority views and dissent on an elected governing authority in North Carolina, championed by Woody White, initiated by several former New Hanover Commissioners now state legislators making state-wide decisions. Contrary to Gov. Pat McCrory and his local allies, and their dishonest and illegal conduct, even asserting an attempt to assassinate Governor McCrory with “drool,” County Chair Woody White, Gov. McCrory and other partners in crime (figure of speech…a little) lost to the U.S. Constitution, N.C. Constitution, Democracy in America and Ethical Public Service. I still look forward to working with them for the people of New Hanover County, to put more police on the streets, improve schools and school safety, protect the environment and stop wasting what might now exceed millions of U.S. dollars devoted by three Board members to nothing more than a personal and politically-motivated “hit job” led by a lawyer with a history of bigotry and not sound public policy. The latter should be the Board’s focus as we move forward together to make New Hanover County a better place to live, safer and more attractive to businesses and job creation.

“I am humbly asking my fellow Commissioners to end the abusive treatment of citizens and understand its okay to ‘agree to disagree’ without raising their fists in anger, to work with me on issues like healthcare and the safety of our streets and schools, grow the local economy and address the issues that affect people’s lives. I pray they can make this change, and the lies and misconduct stop now. I humbly ask my fellow regular citizens to pray real reform replaces the hatred that has fueled this “Amotion process,” a sad reflection on our otherwise great State. I pray we can proceed accordingly, amicably, and talk instead of secretly conspire for a select few as this Board has done under White. I pray I’m not alone in wanting to meet, as professionals, remedy problems and make decisions for the good of all New Hanover County citizens.

“We need prayer now more than ever.”

  • Mr . Austin says:

Mr.Berger I salute you sir for standing firm and sticking up for yourself. You defeated these dogs that represent the New World Order! Keep pushing forward Brian don’t look back and don’t worry us old goats in landfall have deep pockets to support ya.

  • Guest2609 says:

Brian, you are right, “We need prayer now more than ever.” Prayers that you do anything to harm to citizens of New Hanover County and the State of North Carolina. Prayers that you do the decent thing to step down and go about what life you led before being elected into office. Prayers to the citizens that we thoroughly investigate who we elect into office and hope that we never see an individual like yourself hold any position of office. For future elections, a medical and psychological background should be done. Prayers to you that you will be able to find a job after your term expires, that would put up with your antics. You do a disservice to other individuals who have a disability but manage to go about their daily lives normally. Whereas, you do not, you may not physically harm individuals but emotionally and psychologically you do. And you have harmed yourself and have threatened your girlfriend. (How you ever managed to have a girlfriend is beyond me). I need to stop because now I am sounding like you, rambling, rambling, rambling, Woe is me. Enough is enough. I (We) can’t wait for your time to expire.

  • Challengetheworld says:

The saga begins all over again. What will it be first? Slitting your wrists? Driving with no license? No insurance? Showing up late? Rambling emails? You are UNFIT for public office. You are a joke. They stood up to you and the courts made the wrong decision here.

It will only be a matter of time before you make a joke out of your position yet again. Due to your lies, you were elected. However, given your level of professionalism, it will only be a matter of time before your fate catches up to you.

I honestly think you are so delusional when you look in the mirror you fail to see what is truly looking back at you….a weak person with no moral values, tact, decorum, or the slightest bit of integrity. You are not Wilmington and you are Not New Hanover County. I am not sure if you are even a North Carolinian. What you are makes up the reason that reason that politics has a terrible reputation. It should be an honor to be a New Hanover County Commissioner – not a mockery.

You will have your own Lifetime movie – and it will be pathetic. It will be what outlines a person when they step into a role they have no business in. If you have any dignity, which up until now you have proven to lack entirely, you will step down once and for all. Go back to whatever rock your crawled out from under and do us all a favor and leave North Carolina.

Here comes Airplane II – Wilmington …. only there is no punchline here because this all is real.

  • Ron says:

I am not a resident of New Hanover County, but I do have an opinion on this nut. He is today’s typical politician, nuts. Party affiliation makes no difference. If the truths be known, about 1/2 or more of the politicians from local to Washington should be in jail. They pass laws to be followed by the general public and they seem to believe they are above these laws. Enough said. I could write a book.

  • Guest333 says:

I dont condone Com. Brian Berger personal life issues, but we all have them, even Woody. But I want to put in my 2 cents. When the county commissioners and Chris Coudriet, bullied and harassed and eventually fired Dr. Jean McNiel Animal Control Dir. I whitenessed what Com. Berger has said here about lying and manipulateing facts to accomplish their end. They are an evil people.

  • Guest-o-matic says:

…attempt to write a book. Please?

  • Guest112233 says:

    still a nutter.

  • Barry says:

There he goes,,,,drunk again. Spouting that big dumb mouth before he even attends another meeting. Delusional as ever. Brian, remember, you have been unleashed on the taxpayers again by way of a technicality. The amotion process was deemed correct just some of the content to finding fell in your favor. You are still the dumb bastard you were in May.

  • Guest 038875 says:

Don’t know if you were trying to be funny or whatever, but that was a dumb post. “Ron’s” post was a sensible thing to say. Yours was just rude.

What’s the point in just being gratuitously rude?

  • Guestomfg says:

The problem here is all you do is pray. That solves nothing.

  • Guest2929 says:

Now Brian can go back to fighting for the little guy by *gulp* voting with the majority 99.9% of the time.

  • Guest2020 says:

In this day and age, when it comes to democrats and republicans, party labels are always meaningless.

  • Dude says:

    too long; didn’t read brah.

  • Guestzzzzzz says:

    Let the games begin, again!
Waste of time, waste of money, waste of newsprint! He is mentally ill, incompetent, and quite possibly abusing substances. We get to put the needs of the people on hold again, while his issues play out on the public stage. Thank you Republicans for voting him into office. We can always count on you to vote for anyone that “says” they are one of you without even vetting them. For the life of me, I cannot imagine what he might have done in the past that made him a good candidate in the first place!

  • Jacob Kreider says:

    Statement? More like a manifesto.

“prior to being elected by the People of North Carolina to serve them in 2010 my record was a couple minor traffic violations, only.”

Um, I’m more concerned with your record SINCE you were elected.

  • Guest2020 says:

Mr. Berger, I pray that you take advantage of this second chance and be more diligent in your pursuit to serve the people of New Hanover County. They need someone who doesn’t bow to the will of the people who pull the purse strings. They need someone who doesn’t bow to the will of the other commissioners. They need someone who stays strong in the face of adversity. If there are in fact personal issues that have hampered you in the past, please get help so that you can do the job like your supporters have wanted. Please get to the meetings on time and please work to regain the respect of the people who put you in office.

  • dean bailey says:

man you are one f..k up person. i met you one time, you need help. bad real bad . thank god you are a republican

  • Guest1118 says:

Brian was a Libertarian, ran and lost, changed to Republican, ran and won and has not changed back to Libertarian. As this illustrates, sometimes party labels are meaningless.

  • Guest 1492 says:

which one of the two of you is crazier.

Regardless, Berger’s story has more significance. He’s holding an elected office and you’re just an aberrant speed bump that we run across occasionally in these posts.

  • SurfCityTom says:

too many words. too much mindless blathering.

should have kept it short, simple and modest.

  • ChefnSurf says:

…. which he probably should have, Berger still doesn’t have enough common sense to know when to shut up.

Remove him from all positions of responsibility, monitor his expenses, put him in the corner and let him prattle his insane nonsense until his term is over. If no one really listens to him, he really won’t have said anything.

Time to move on to actual county business.

  • Guest2013 says:

did i miss it or did somebody ever explain how this guy went from being self employed to collecting unemployment when he was first elected? Cause I’m still thinking that was neat trick

  • Common Sense says:

You need to do your part to. Show up for all meetings on time and act appropriately. Make a public apology for disrespecting the board and the people by being late and or skipping meetings all together.
I’m glad your’re back on the board. I thought the whole process was ridiculous. You were elected by the people and they should be the body that fires you to. Serve out the term peacefully and appropriately.
