WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One little girl’s dream to go to Disney is coming true thanks to Live Oaks Bank, who sponsored the trip.

Six-year-old Dacey Houghtaling has been fighting Congenital Heart Disease since birth. Her mother says it has been a rough road trying to take care of her child while providing her with a normal childhood the last six years.

Friday the bank hosted a send-off party for Dacey, who will make the trip with her parents and two sisters September 18th.

Dacey’s mother says she is extremely grateful to Make-A-Wish for providing her daughter an opportunity she was not able to give her.

“It’s the thrill of a lifetime right now. Just to see my kid happy and something that she could get to possibly do otherwise. Make-A-Wish has definitely been a God-sent,” Gretchen Houghtaling said.

Dacey said she can not wait to meet Tinkerbell.

Both “Make a Wish” and Disney are scamming the public. Disney wants kids turned into consumers of crap pop culture and “Make a Wish” plays on the sympathies of the public to line their own pockets. Sad.

@ Gestahug? Let me guess, you also think Barbie dolls and the Wizard of Oz are evil. The great thing about consumerism is you can choose or not choose to partake. So a little girl wants to go to Disney. So she will smile a little a bit. What’s it to you?

This foundation has been making wishes come true for many years. Anyone who doubts the sincerity should take a look in the mirror to see who the real problem is–not Make-a-Wish or Disney, that’s for sure. This Disney is the most common place the children ask to go, it is not the only place, so to accuse them of preying on children’s wishes is just absurd and shows a lack of compassion.

Dacey had a wonderful time on her vacation. It was great to see her laugh and play with the characters. Thank you Make-A-Wish.
