WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man stabbed outside a downtown Wilmington gas station Monday is speaking out.

Joseph King says he was talking with a homeless man he knows outside of the Family Fare at N. 3rd and Red Cross streets when Antoine Chapelle James confronted him and demanded money. King says he fought back, and that’s when King says James stabbed him twice.

“He wanted my money, and I wasn’t giving it to him, and next thing I know is I’ve got a hole in my neck and a hole in my side,” King said.

King says he has a collapsed lung, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

James is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is in jail under $25,000 secured bond.
