Police search for masked men who robbed Burger King workers at gunpoint

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police are searching for a couple of suspects after they say two fast food workers were robbed at gunpoint late last night.

It happened just after the workers closed down the Burger King at 1901 S. 16th St. for the night.

Police say the employees were walking to their cars to leave for the night when two men jumped out of the bushes across the street. A police spokeswoman says the suspects forced the victims on the ground, stole some things from them and then and forced the workers back into the restaurant. Inside they stole money from the safe.

Police say one of the men had a revolver, while the other had an automatic handgun. Both suspects are black males, who were wearing black hoodies. One of the men was wearing a hockey mask, and the other was wearing a blue bandanna over his face. They say both men are about 6' tall, one in blue jeans, and the other wearing blue gym shorts.

Police say K-9 units and SABLE had no luck in tracking the duo, who got away with thousands of dollars in cash. They say the men also stole the employees' wallets and cell phones.

If the money was in the safe

If the money was in the safe and the employees were leaving, why wasn't the safe locked? Surely they wouldn't leave to go home and leave it unlocked? And why did employees have access to the combination? I might have missed it, but I don't see where either one of them was a manager. Don't know their protocol for such matters. Just wondering.

Have We Asked The NSA?

They probably are tracking them right now. :-)

Why was the thousands of dollars not in the safe already? and why would the police or the spokesperson for BK report the AMOUNT of missing Cash!!!! This just makes them an even bigger target. And even if the cell phones were taken there is still a land line in the office.
These stick up men are not smart enough to time this so perfectly the cash should not be lying around with the doors unlocked in the first place, and where are the camera's?
corporations are not this stupid are they?

News story states... "Inside they stole money from the safe."

and beachguy writes as his FIRST sentence... "Why was the thousands of dollars not in the safe already?"

Overzealous inquiry

Yeah , sorry I got carried away I noticed that right after I hit the post the comment button which is usually what happens in this kind of thing happens.
so here is what My main question is what is the person closing up doing with the combo to the safe? I am sure they were not the general manager.
This job reeks of fast food and conspiracy! We will see soon enough if we are correct in the assumption.

And If I were BK there would be a time lock safe installed immediately.
And a huge placard stating that the safe cannot be opened by employees right out in the lobby also some security cameras inside and out to watch everything that goes on. I cannot figure out why these types of places do not have this already. It reminds of the incident last year of an employee selling smack out the back door of another fast food chain in Wilmington last year
How can anyone that has worked and (I mean worked as this is not an easy job) their way into a management position miss this kind of activity?

Most likely ...

From the sounds of it, the foolish threesome probably staged this "robbery" in an attempt to make off with lots of cash.

We need more gun buybacks!

If there was a gun "buyback" every day these guys would have sold their guns for BK gift certificates instead of robbing the place!

Well, at least they honored

Well, at least they honored the ceasefire and didn't shoot.

COME ON!!!!!

all the technology and stuff the law enforcement has and thats it. two guys get away with thousands of dollars. didnt track the phones or nothing. smh really

I would assume the cops

I would assume the cops tried to track the suspects through the stolen phones, but I would also assume the suspects ditched the phones because they already knew that.

Great reporting

The other perp had an "automatic handgun"? How do they know? Police are very inept if they don't know the difference between auto and semiauto. Why didn't these thugs sell them to the church? I thought that was gonna solve everything.

The police most likely let a

The police most likely let a reporter write the story, the police are busy trying to find the bad guys.

Sounds suspicious ...

A guy with a Jason mask, another guy with a blue bandana (probably a Crip), but no one dressed as the Hamburgler?

A full description would have been nice

If we had been told for instance that the two perps weren't Asian, we could immediately eliminate over three and a half billion people as suspects.

Asian ....

Methinks they would not be able to tell if someone is Asian if said someone is wearing a mask.

And furthermore, there are not 3 1/2 billion Asians living in this area.

Now if what you REALLY want to say is "why don't they divulge if the perps were black or white" then that would be reasonable to deduce with or without a mask.

Maybe they were Asians who flew here just for this.

Of course what I really wanted to say is "why don't they just tell us if the perps were black or white."

Just being mockingly politically correct by mocking political correctness.

They should be searching for

They should be searching for two men without masks, they most likely have taken them off by now. Lol
