WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Exactly one week after a judge reinstated Brian Berger, the once-ousted New Hanover County Commissioner walked back into the New Hanover County Government Center for his first agenda briefing since his amotion dismissal.
In his first meeting back Berger showed up about two minutes late.
During the 20-minute briefing he asked only one question and appeared disinterested as he texted on his phone.
After the meeting, Commissioner Jonathan Barfield welcomed Berger back to the board with a fist bump, but his fellow commissioners declined to talk.
Berger's attorney Chris Anglin spoke on his behalf.
"He's glad to have resumed his seat and he's looking forward to resuming his work on behalf of the people of New Hanover County," Anglin said. "He's glad he was able to make the agenda meeting today, and he looks forward to filling out the remainder of his seat."
Anglin says Berger has been keeping up with some county issues, but it will take him time to get back up to speed with all of the county business. He says for now he is glad the commission has not discussed the next step in the amotion process.
