Scholarship Pageant returns to NC Spot Festival

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The 50th Anniversary of the NC Spot Festival is just two weeks away, but celebrations will begin Saturday, September 14, 2013.

That evening will mark the return of a scholarship pageant to the NC Spot Festival after a three year hiatus. The pageant was temporarily taken away from the festivities, after the passing of the former Pageant Director.

Current Pageant Director Shannon Rinko sat down with GMC anchor Ashley Jacobs to talk about the return of the pageant and describe the areas in which contestants will compete.

When the night is over, the Queen will walk away with a $2,500 scholarship and the Princess will earn a $500 savings bond.

GMC anchor Ashley Jacobs will host the pageant at Topsail Middle School.

You can catch all the competition, style and smarts at 5 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 4 p.m at the Topsail High School Auditorium. Children ages 5 and younger are admitted free, as are visiting queens donning a sash or crown. Adult admission is $7.
