WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputy is back on patrol less than a month after shooting a suspect.

Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer says Dep. Joshua Cranford returned to duty Monday after an internal investigation found he had not violated any department policies or procedures.

Cranford had been on administrative leave since Aug. 16 when he shot Darius Hester on Rockhill Rd. in Castle Hayne. Hester was charged with attempted first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.

Brewer says the SBI is still investigating the criminal side of the case.
