WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Tickets are still available for the 16th Annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon. The event will be October 3, 2013, at the Wilmington Convention center. New York Times best-selling author Emily Giffin will be the guest speaker.

There will also be a silent purse auction and special table raffle by REEDS Jewelers. But the most important element, of course, is to help local women battling breast cancer.

Corina Chambers, 2013 Pink Ribbon Events Chair, joined GMC anchor Ashley Jacobs on set stress just how crucial this event is to women and their health care. You can get tickets by calling (910)815-5002 or following this link.

Since 1998, the Pink Ribbon events, community partnerships and donations have raised more than $1.4 million and provided over 5,600 Comfort Bags to area women as they undergo treatment for cancer. These bags contain items that range from the practical to the inspirational and are designed to let women know they're not alone as they go through a difficult period. The Pink Ribbon Project also funds mammography screenings for women in our region who do not have health insurance or financial resources, and follow-up diagnostic procedures for women who receive a suspect mammography result. Since October 1, 2012, the Pink Ribbon Project has already helped 1,033 people with mammograms and follow-up diagnostics, already surpassing the 860 people served in all of fiscal year 2012.
