Man charged in shooting death of NC social worker

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have charged the estranged boyfriend of a Gaston County social worker with murder after the woman was shot and killed in her apartment in South Carolina.

The Gaston Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1dw1k3l) 58-year-old John Washington is charged in the death of 51-year-old Zelda D. Kollock.

Co-workers said Kollock lived in a Gastonia apartment during the week, and would return to her home in Columbia, S.C., on the weekends. She had worked with Gaston County since September 2012 as a supervisor in adult protective services.

Officers arrested Washington last Saturday after they say he got into a car accident on Interstate 77 and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital, and is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia without bond.
