WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Crews have an office fire under control at 6329 Oleander Drive. And, all eastbound lanes, and one westbound lane are open. That's according to Sammy Flowers, the Wilmington Fire Department Battalion Chief, and the Wilmington Police Department.

An off-duty Wilmington Fire captain was driving home from work and saw smoke coming through the ridge vent of the roof and called 911, the fire department says.

Oleander Drive between Bradley Creek Bridge to Greenville Loop Road is closed. Drivers are urged to stay away from the area and not to drive over water hoses.

The firefighter who saw and reported the fire went into the building to make sure everyone inside made it out safely. No one was hurt.

According to the building owner, the value of the structure was $1.6 million. The fire department says the structure sustained heavy fire and water damage and may be a total loss. The fire appeared to have started on the second floor attic area, but the cause is still undetermined.

So sorry to see this. Dr. Ward is awesome. Hope they get up and running soon.

Off-duty Fire Captain?

WFD spokesperson says and off duty fire captain noticed the smoke, and other media says he helped evacuate occupants, you would think they would want to give the name? Was he drunk at the time?
