WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Firefighters say a Wilmington home that was damaged by flames early Sunday caught fire again early this morning.

Crews say the home at 410 North 13th street was fully engulfed when crews arrived Sunday, and although the scene Monday morning was very similar, they do not believe the fire reignited because of smoldering flames.

Firefighters say the home was a foreclosure, so no one was home at the time of the fire, but neighbors were evacuated Sunday as a precaution.

On Sunday, they said the damages to the home total around $25,000 and by Monday the damages may be closer to $50,000 because the flames went through the roof during the second fire.

Neighbors say they woke up to the sound of sirens and the smell of smoke, but no other homes nearby were damaged. There’s no word yet on what caused the two fires, or if they were related, but crews continue investigating.

They’re too busy in Creekwood, and down town.
    You can’t have them everywhere
Where the owner of this building?

  • Guestifer says:

Great idea. With over 200 abandon houses in Wilmington I’m sure none of us would mind if the police diverted their attention from shootings, break-ins and thefts, to watching these houses so the not-so-concerns owners can rest easy.

  • Guest-o-matic says:

…the fire didn’t “re-ignite due to smoldering embers.” It was re-ignited by the same CRACKHEADS that started the first fire. You would think the Wilmington PD would keep an eye on vacant buildings like this that serve a crack dens to Wilmingtons finest criminals.

  • Morty Sussman says:

With Obamas help maybe some high tech high wage innovator will create a crack pipe that doesn’t get hot and burn the crack houses down! Maybe the crackhead who burned it down can apply for a govt grant!

Another mindless person ranting off topic ( do all of yall learn from FOX News ) or are you just brain dead? Please tell Me how Obama has anything to do with this place? This area has been trash for the last 20 years, nothing changed when Obama came into office. Please remember there has always been druggies, and low income.

  • Guest20202013 says:

Hey I lost my job…Its President Obama’s fault that i lost it
I got a new job only because i worked for it, and the president had nothing to do with helping me out while looking for a job ( his policies only helped my family get foodstamps and emergency funds )
Let me blame him for all the bad but not think him for all the good he has put in place. I voted Rep the last few times…never again

  • Morty Sussman says:

Are you the thought police? Obama certainly has alot to do with crackheads burning down foreclosed houses, since HIS LEFTIST POLICIES have everything to do with the increasing poverty, income gap, economic malalise, joblessness, regulations impeding companies expanding, homelessness and drug infiltration across the border thanks to his open border policy. Shall I go on? Or should you just go back to staring mindlessly at MSNBC? In the battle of wits you are carrying a butterknife to a gunfight.

  • shrew99 says:

Are we just ignoring the fact that Bush was ever president and was the real downfall to this country?

  • Morty Sussman says:

Obama has been in office two terms now, but none of this is his fault its still all Bushes! Nice try leftist, Bush had one bad year but Obama has had 5 down years, no blaming this on Bush anymore! Bush didnt put Obamacare on top of the people further crushing the little guy with debt, higher costs and less emnployment! Keep trying whackjob, if you want to go back in history start with FDR the first of the leftist spendthrift presidents, not Bush! By your stupid analogy Bush started a fire, and Obama threw gas on it!

I told you not to try and argue with the idiot who posted before you. I think he starts drinking early in the day.

  • tke1 says:

Must have been another cigarette butt. They have been starting fires for years. I hope they never eradicate cigarettes. All the fire investigators will have to be totally retrained.

  • Guest-o-matic says:

I didn’t say they had to sleep there, eat their donuts or drink their coffee there. A little drive by survellience and keeping the eye open at these dens may solve a few crimes. Where did you pull that “200 abandon houses in Wilmington” number from? Did it appear as a light wisp of smoke from your jimmy-jong bong?

As a minimum the city should develop and ordinance holding the vacant home owners liable for NOT keeping their property secured AND monitored.
