WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wave Transit will not cut any of its routes… for now.

County Commissioners, City Council and members of the Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority Board met today to discuss funding.

In the end the decision was made to extend the routes through the fiscal year, which ends in July.

Riders say they are grateful their voices were heard, but leaders say this is only a short term fix.

“My concern with Wave Transit is this: you can’t spend more than you bring in and then expect the government to bail you out each time you go above and beyond,” said New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield, who is also a member of the Wave Board. “I have been on that board 4 1/2 years, and every year I have voted against the budget there.”
