Raleigh picks new city manager from Charlotte

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Raleigh has hired an assistant city manager in Charlotte to be its new city manager.

Raleigh City Council voted unanimously Friday to give Ruffin Hall the job. He will start work on Nov. 18.

Hall is currently the budget director for Charlotte. He was picked over 80 applicants and four finalists. Hall is replacing Russell Allen, whose contract was ended in April after a decade as Raleigh's city manager.

Hall says he is looking forward to moving back to the region. He has a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also worked for the cities of Chapel Hill and Durham before moving to Charlotte.
