Topsail Beach wants to update an old law

TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- A Pender County law from the 60's is costing one store lots of money. The law allows the sale of beer in a retail store , but prohibits the consumption of it.

Owner of Quarter Moon in Topsail Beach Lori Fisher says beer draws people into her store, especially during live concerts. She says the Town of Topsail Beach supports her push to update this old law.

"It was a little distressing because we were right in the middle of our season, we had spent a lot of money on advertising. We had really built up a pretty nice clientele, because we have live music on the weekends. People were coming and enjoying sitting outside drinking beer and wine."

County commissioners will discuss the possibility of a public vote on the alcohol sales. Fisher says the earliest it could be on a ballot is May.

Is this not a repeat (almost word for word) of a story that ran a couple of weeks ago?
