WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It was the dog days of fall this weekend at Wrightsville Beach Park for the 20th Annual Bark in the Park. Man’s best friend competed against fellow dogs in a frisbee-catching contest, and the competition was “ruff.”
Contestants earned points for the best tricks and most accurate catches, and the top three even got awards. Owners say they and their pets look forward to the play-date every year.
“We don’t really train for it, it is just all about the fun,” said dog-lover Sally Cummings. “She loves to catch a Frisbee, and I am grateful for the park to set this up for us and let us have a lot of fun with our pets.”
Here is a list of this year’s winners:
1st place – 27 points – Bob Davis and Spirit (4 yr old male Terv).
2nd Place – 21.5 points – Stretch Taylor and Panama (3 yr old male Doberman).
3rd Place – 20.5 points Bill Traina and Opal (6 yr old female mixed breed).
Bark in the Park is an annual event. There is never an entry fee for competitors and admission is always free for all spectators.
