Rescued animals from Pender Co. arrive at Greensboro trauma center

GREENSBORO, NC (AP) -- Nearly 100 animals rescued from a home in Pender County last week have arrived at the Guilford County Animal Shelter.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that 56 dogs, 41 chickens and a goat have been placed with the shelter's trauma center.

Shelter executive director Marsha Williams says many of the dogs near eye or ear surgery. Many of the dogs also have grooming and dental problems.

She says some of the chickens have raw hides from lost feathers. She thinks they were cooped up in a very small space.

Williams said she could not talk about the raid or the specifics in the case because the investigation is continuing.
