Experts: Simple steps can thwart cyber attacks

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Cape Fear Community College says you may not think twice after logging onto a website, but you should.

CFCC marked its inaugural Cyber Security Awareness Day with a series of lectures on campus. Instructors say it is important to know how to protect your personal information while browsing the web. They want to provide internet surfers a few helpful tips.

"A lot of these programs, as they age, attackers find security flaws in them," CFCC instructor Mark Grover said. "By keeping these up-to-date we can actually make sure that we lower the attack surface or what they are able to get in on your computer."

Experts also say changing passwords often and having different passwords for everything can fend off cyber attacks.
