WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -- On Saturday, October 19, more than 100 children are expected to gather at the Community Arts Center on 2nd and Orange Streets to audition for one of seven starring roles in Thalian Association’s upcoming Wilmington premiere of Willy Wonka. Based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka will be performed at Thalian Hall December 12-22.
Auditions begin at 10:00 a.m. and are on a first come, first served basis. Each participant will be asked to sing a song of their choice, and those being considered for the roles will be called back on Monday, October 21 to show off their dancing skills. Finalists will be asked to read and sing for the roles on Wednesday, October 23 and final casting will be complete by Friday, October 25.
Children will audition for the iconic roles of Charlie Bucket, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt, Mike Teavee, Augustus Gloop and Charlie’s school chums James and Matilda. Willy Wonka is being directed by Mike Thompson, a Wilmington Theater Award nominee for his direction of 9 to 5, with music direction by Jennifer Sugerik and choreography by Kendra Goehring-Garrett.
Established in 1788, Thalian Association is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to enhancing the Cape Fear region through live community theater and arts education. Thalian Community Theater produces five major productions annually on the Main Stage at historic Thalian Hall.
