BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A Bladen County man was killed last night while walking with his family along Airport Road.

Now his family is left with a void in their heart.

“It just happened so fast,” said Felicia Skinner, wife of Marcus Skinner

Marcus Skinner, 31 was hit and killed Thursday evening.

“We were about to walk down the street, but he was gone so fast,” said Felicia Skinner.

Felicia says a man driving a pick-up truck struck her 14-year-old son and her husband, throwing both of them into a ditch.

Felicia was able to move out of the way, and their son was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Now the Skinner family wants to know why charges have not been brought against the man, she says stole her joy.

“We just want to know why the investigation is taking so long. We just want some answers,” said Felicia Skinner.

In a statement to WWAY, District Attorney Jon David says, “This is a horrible tragedy and my office will be conducting an in-depth review of the investigation. As part of that process, we will be speaking with all parties involved and we will examine the physical evidence. Cases involving loss of life are a priority for my office.”

Ms. Baldwin, I understand the concern you have for this family, but I didn’t understand a thing you wrote in the sentence. Would you mind starting all over and explain it again? Thank you and again my condolences to the Skinner family.

There are no words to explain what we are going through. When you love, honor and respect someone, you want the best for them, even in death. I refuse to allow my husband or son to be disrespected or dishonored. I know that words are words but there is a way of saying everything. I just want my husband to be at peace and as well as my son and myself. True love never dies and that will forever be MY HUSBAND. That is just not going to change. God is forgiving and I try not to judge but wrong is wrong. No matter how we spell it. I thank you for being a true friend that genuinely understands my current situation. I too will cherish the good times. But reality is, I now have to raise my son fatherless.

Pedestrians beware

Tragic loss. But this opportunity to remind pedestrians how to walk safely can be useful. Walking is properly done ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE FACING TRAFFIC! There is a good reason for this. Pedestrians do not automatically have the right of way, but even if they do, the vehicle always wins the encounter. Regardless of right of way, the pedestrian should take responsibility for watching traffic and being prepared to move out of harm’s way. I am amazed at the number of pedestrians strolling along the right side of a road, back to traffic, and they never even turn a glance at the cars coming behind them. Somebody needs to teach our children these fundamental safety lessons or it will keep happening. Our roads are not designed to stand in, walk on, or bicycle along. Sometimes we need to do it, but stay alert.

First off, common sense is to walk on the left side of the road! My husband was walking alongside the road on the left. He wasn’t in the street to even have a reason (eg. “to stand in, walk on, or bicycle along”) to move out of harms way. He was facing on-coming traffic. Maybe you should re-read the article because somewhere you are way off. We were about to walk and not returning from a walk. You are right, we do need to “teach our children safety lessons”, especially when you have people who, even though both lanes are empty, manages to hit TWO innocent people and kills one. Reality is, a life is lost and we (his family) is suffering.

First off, it was late evening. It was just before dark and a beautiful, bright full moon out. Nothing about what happened was usual.

night? could it have been the usual, dark clothing with no reflective gear that keeps one more visable walking on side of road at night? still, a family has lost a loved one. My condolences.

What I am saying is that the given statement was given from Felica my brother Marcus other half that the person who hit my brother, had been hit by a driver who hit and left to come back then to leave again then returned to the scene with his sheriff friend of 15 yrs, when she asked for. the man name she was threaten to be arrested and told to think about how another feel in this tragic accident instead provided info far as the man name and insurance info. It’s true. accidents happen but at a time like this when you can’t get the info you need that you should be able to get. having to deal with getting your love one the care they need for them to be properly cared for should not of been a issue leaving the scene is.
against the law, tell me why no one is hearing or. being told the info needed to get help with the bill on a hit an run? Accident or not my brother isn’t here and a child has gotten struck but then it is also told that the urine that the office supposedly had from the driver was not accepted because the temp was off by time they got it to the hospital the officer had it to long for them to use, I need to know the truth of how my brother got hit and why haven’t the info been given that was needed. What part of this tragic. accident charges if any has been place on the man that hit brother? Was he running or walking, on the right or wrong side of the street? Is the driver going to be responsible. form. .

You know I think it is sad that someone try to justify death! All the excuses in the world will not bring him back. Will they justify the fact that he fled the scene of the accident and returned? Sad to say but this county is screwed up! What’s good for goose is good for the gander!!! I truly hope JUSTICE IS SERVED!!! May God give you peace now and always!!!
