Police search for masked men who rang doorbell, robbed homeowners

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Police are searching for three masked men who they say rang the doorbell at a Wilmington home before robbing the homeowners with a large gun.

It happened around 11 p.m. Thursday at 3428 Regency Drive. Police say when the men, wearing toboggans and hoodies, came to the door, one of the homeowners answered.

That's when they say the three men forced their way inside, where two people were home, and demanded money. Police say the homeowner handed over his wallet before the trio took off running.

SABLE and K-9 units helped in the search, but police believe the men may have hopped into a vehicle to get away. No one was hurt in the home invasion, but police continue investigating.

If you have any information, call Wilmington Police.
