WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Harris Teeter near UNCW has stayed open during months of renovations, but it is closed tonight after a fire this afternoon.

The Wilmington Fire Department says sprinklers helped crews quickly controlled the fire at the store at 820 S. College Rd.

A WFD spokesman says the fire started with welding on the roof. He says the fire caused about $15,000 worth of structural damage. A store employee tells WWAY the fire damaged the wine section inside the store.

The fire department says cleanup crews, sprinkler contractors and store personnel will work around the clock to get the store opened by Monday, if not sooner.

No one was hurt.
