WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- UNC Wilmington received one of the largest gifts in school history.
The Dobo family gave the university a $2.5 million endowment. It will be added to the previously established Dobo Eendowment, which is valued at more than $5 million.
"It's a transformative gift for UNCW," Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Eddie Stuart said. "It's rare to have seven-figure gifts. The Dobo family has been incredibly generous to UNCW for a long time. It's philanthropic support like this that can make a good institution great. "
Stuart says the gift is an unrestricted endowment. That means it will generate money for the university's greatest needs. He says those needs will be heavily student and faculty based.
