SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WPDE) -- Surfside Beach, SC, police have charged Julie Amtey, 34, of Wilmington, with attempted murder, failure to stop for blue lights and reckless driving right after being released from the hospital where she's been since August.

On August 9, an officer was sent to investigate a suspicious car parked behind a church.

The officer found an SUV and says Amtey, who was driving it, backed up and sped off, almost hitting the officer, according to Surfside Beach Police Chief Rodney Keziah.

Let me guess...

Was she perhaps in a mental hospital?

Hypothetically, If I almost back over someone, say, backing out of my parking spot, is that attempted murder? Or, is this case just considered attempted murder since it was a police officer and she was fleeing? I suppose the prosecutors will have a tough time getting that charge to stick, with the burden to prove intent.

if she knew he was there and

if she knew he was there and back up in a car towards him it is attempted murder, regardless of who it was.....

Exactly

You're exactly right. The intent must be present.
