Carolina Beach, NC (WWAY) – Carolina Beach will have a few familiar faces returning to Town Council.

Dozens of people waited outside of the Carolina Beach Recreation Center Tuesday to learn the results of this highly anticipated election.

“I will great. We ran a good campaign. We had a lot of good community support and obviously it’s a very close race,” said Dan Wilcox, Mayor-Elect.

Wilcox is the projected winner in the mayoral race, but the numbers could still fluctuate.

Mayor Bob Lewis says the issues that plagued the town over the past few months may have played a role in this year’s election.

“I think most of the controversy was made up. This is people trying to make up something, because we have been so successful. The town has been doing so well,” said Lewis.

LeAnn Pierce has lived in Carolina Beach for more than 20 years and was elected to town council. She says she is looking forward to getting to work for her community.

“My vision for Carolina Beach is for us all to be friends and neighbors and to work together,” said Pierce.

Gary Doetsch was also elected Tuesday to town council and says the residents spoke loud and clear.

“I think there was a question in most residents mind about the experience level on council,” said Doetsch.
