BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Virginia Williamson Elementary Principal Shirley Williamson described Mrs. Tara Cumbee as energetic.
“She is very enthusiastic,” she said, “and she can motivate any child beyond belief.”
So you can imagine how surprised Principal Williamson was to see her beloved teacher speechless!
“Gosh I can talk all day long and I don’t have the words,” Cumbee said after learning the news she is WWAY Teacher of the Week.
But who needs words when you have dozens of hugs? Her fifth grade students quickly ran to hug their teacher say congratulations.
“Its very sweet,” Cumbee said with teary eyes, “Its very humbling and I guess sometimes you think that you just do your job during the day and your finished at the end of the day and you go home and life goes on.”
But not in her case. She’s made a lasting impact on student and parents alike. Virginia Williamson Elementary sets high standards for students, so they need strong leaders. Cumbee is preparing to lead on a whole new level in May. She’ll escort students on a trip to Washington, DC.
And she still remembers her own trip to the nation’s capitol as an elementary student.
“I have my black and white picture at the front of the board,” she explained, “and it has my fifth grade picture and I don’t tell the kids which one’s me until the end of the year.”
Soon she’ll have new pictures to display, complete with new memories of her latest trip to D.C. with students.
