Carolina Beach hires new police chief

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Carolina Beach has hired a new police chief.

Kenneth Hinkle starts Tuesday. The town says he has more than 30 years of police experience, most recently in Obetz, OH, where he worked as chief for more than five years.

Hinkle replaces Kurt Bartley, who retired in July. Det. Harry Humphries has been serving as interim chief.

And this is the best Carolina Beach can do? someone with no NC experience; who has to take a year to become certified in NC; you mean to tell me that no in state applicants were acceptable? They prefer to enable double dipping from an applicant from a state that wouldn't welcome NC police officers the same? Wow what an insult to the staff of ranking officers at CBPD

Maybe the recent track record of law enforcement stepping on their d###s has come to roost so to speak. A little outside influence may be just what they need to root out all the bad apples. This guy is not related to any of these officers in any way.
