Co-owner of Stanley day care faces sex charges

READ MORE:

STANLEY, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have charged a Stanley man who owns a day care with his wife with taking indecent liberties with a child and first-degree statutory sex offense.

Stanley police say 57-year-old Robert Youngblood Kerby is being held in the Gaston County jail on $2 million bond following his arrest Tuesday. It's not known if Kerby has an attorney.

Kerby and his wife have owned Caron's Day Care in Stanley for 19 years.

Stanley Police, Gaston County Police and State Bureau of Investigation agents executed a search warrant at Kerby's home and the daycare Tuesday night. Authorities are attempting to get a temporary suspension of the day care's license until the investigation is complete.

Investigators have met with parents of children attending the day care to alert them to the charges.
