BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Brunswick County couple charged with arson last month now face fraud charges after asking for public assistance.
On Oct. 30 Brunswick County Sheriff's deputies and the SBI charged Stephanie Woods Thomas, 37, and Jason Terry Rollins, 31, both of Supply, with second-degree arson and felony conspiracy to commit arson. The charges stem from a fire at a home on Clemmons Road in Bolivia Sept. 17.
Yesterday the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office Fire Investigation Task Force arrested Thomas for solicitation to obtain property by false pretense and obtaining property by false pretense. Officers charged Rollins with conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense.
According to an arrest warrant, Thomas tried to get furniture, clothing and cash from friends on Facebook by posting a plea for help, including a savings account number to deposit donations. Investigators say she also applied for help from Brunswick Family Assistance for the house fire that investigators say she is responsible for. They say Rollins conspired with her to get help from Brunswick Family Assistance.
Thomas is out of jail on a $10,000 bond. Rollins is still in jail under a $56,000 bond.
