Marcy Cuevas comes home to WWAY in new role

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- When WWAY launches a new newscast early next year, one of Wilmington's most experienced journalists will be at the helm.

Marcy Cuevas has rejoined the WWAY NewsChannel 3 team as the producer for our new 10 p.m. newscast that starts Jan. 6, 2014, on The Cape Fear CW.

Marcy started at WWAY in August 1999. In Sept. 2012 she decided to take on a new role as full-time mom to her three young children. During her 14 years at the station, Marcy moved up from reporter to eventually anchor every newscast at some point. She is perhaps best known for her time as anchor of "Good Morning Carolina" from Jan. 2006 until the fall of 2011.

After a year away from the station, though, she decided she missed the news business and wondered if there might be a job available that would let her spend the day with her kids and get her news fix at night. They say life is about timing, and it clearly is, because we had just started searching for a part-time producer for The Cape Fear CW 10 p.m. newscast.

When Marcy said she was interested, it was pretty much a no-brainer for us. She is one of the most experienced news people in our area. She brings with her a wealth of experience, knowledge and leadership. How can you say no to that?

For the next couple of months Marcy will be hard at work knocking the rust off and learning all the new things that have been added to our newsroom and studio during her year away. Truth be told, she's done most of that in the first few weeks she's been back.

You won't see Marcy much on air, but know that she is hard at work behind the scenes making all of our newscasts, and especially the new 10 p.m. newscast on The Cape Fear CW, quality products.

Welcome home, Marcy!

Is she superwoman? Sounds like it if she can care for twin 3 yr olds & an 18 month old by day and work the news at night. I hope she has a smooth transition returning to WWAY & PLEASE get her back on the air eventually! She's fantastic!

I really enjoyed seeing her smiling face every morning when I watched the early morning news, so I am glad to hear that she is returning!

We moved here 7 years ago & Marcy & Kevin quickly became our favorite morning news folks. Love her, glad to see her back (in any capacity) at WWAYTV3!!

Welcome Back! Where is Kevin :-)

Welcome home! Hope to see you on the air some, too.

Yay! Missed you so much Marcy! Now if we can just get you back on the air.

Welcome back Marcy.. Certainly have missed you and glad you are coming back even if not on the air. You have always been a professional.
