STEM activity day exposes kids to science

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Science surrounds us every day, and the City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation department wants kids to explore it.

Volunteers hosted STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activity days at the Northeast Library in Wilmington. Groups set up fun projects that allowed kids to apply science by even playing games.

Parents say it’s just what kids need to get them interested.

"My husband is an engineer, and my son loves to touch and explore everything," said Amy Parker. "This just helps him learn a little bit more about science and technology. It helps my daughter, as well, to just seeing applications in real life."

The goal is to have an STEM activity day every few months. The next activity day is not yet scheduled, but will focus on engineering.
