WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It was a fiesta at Ogden Park this weekend for the 15th Annual Festival Latino.

Music filled the air while festival attendees enjoyed the sights, smells, and sounds of the Latino culture.

The festival kicked off Saturday with entertainment, food, and even a kid’s fiesta complete with piñatas, clowns, and Spanish story time.

It was performer Ruth Aquino’s first time at the Festival Latino. She says huge crowds flocked to the festival, where she and her dance group from Asheboro, NC performed.

Aquino says it’s important to celebrate and share the Latino culture with others.

“We would like to get to know, to let everybody know about our culture. There are a lot of people who have grown up here that are from Hispanic families that don’t know much about the culture so we bring a little piece of Mexico with us,” Aquino said.

And these performers were not the only attraction catching people’s eyes.

Hungry crowds could choose from a variety of authentic Latino cuisine to enjoy at the festival.

The festival came to a close today. Organizers say thousands of people came out to enjoy the festivities and learn about the Latino culture.
