5-year-old NC girl struck by SUV dies in hospital


ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a 5-year-old Fletcher girl who was struck by an SUV last week has died.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports ( Lola Anne Ramsey, a kindergarten student at Avery's Creek Elementary School, died Sunday at Mission Hospital.

Police say Lola and her 2-year-old brother, Silas Ramsey, were hit by the vehicle last Wednesday night while walking across a road. Silas Ramsey was seriously injured and was taken to Mission Hospital, but his mother said he is expected to survive.

According to police, the children were accompanied by their mother's boyfriend when the accident occurred. An investigation is under way, but no charges have been filed.

The N.C. Highway Patrol said the driver of the car likely won't be charged.
