CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - A senior executive in a public relations agency and an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been named the school's first vice chancellor for communications and public affairs.
Chancellor Carol Folt announced the appointment of Joel Curran, effective Dec. 2. The appointment was approved by the UNC Board of Trustees.
Curran is managing director of the New York office for MSLGROUP, described as the world's fourth largest public relations and engagement agency and the strategic communications group for the Paris-based Publicis Groupe. He has worked at public relations agencies across the country and spent more than a decade with The Walt Disney Co.
As vice chancellor, the Lexington native will oversee a university relations staff that works with other campus colleagues supporting schools and units.
