WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Meaghan Thomas said she didn’t find teaching. The career found her. She hasn’t looked back since accepting her first teaching job.

Teaching runs in the family for Thomas. The first grade teacher explained how she was introduced to the profession.

“My mom was a teacher,” she said. “My grandma was a teacher. So I always said I wouldn’t become a teacher, but it kinda found me.”

And Thomas has enjoyed teaching since graduating college. She currently teaches first grade at Wrightsville Beach Elementary.

Thomas described why she loves this age group.

“Every day is different,” she smiled. “Even if you have a rough day before, you can always change and make it better and just seeing the excitement of everything they learn.”

Her students enjoy singing songs to learn important lessons ranging from math skills to the days of the week and months of the year.

The enthusiasm in each student’s voice makes it clear they love spending weekdays with their teacher, who is now a WWAY Teacher of the Week.
