Gay alum disappointed with Myrtle Grove Christian School anti-gay policy

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Myrtle Grove Christian School is adopting a new Biblical Morality Policy that could keep some families out.

According to a letter signed by Head of School Stacey Miller, the school reserves the right to refuse admission or kick out a student "if the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home or the activities of the student are counter to or are in opposition to the biblical lifestyle the school teaches."

The letter says that includes homosexual or bisexual activity.

"I started crying over it, because it truly broke my heart," former student Jenna Ingram said. "They are being taught hate is what it really boils down to."

Ingram is gay. She says the church sees many lifestyles as sinful. She's not sure why the school is targeting and shunning homosexuals.

"I praise the same God as they do. I read the same Bible," Ingram said. "I practice most of the same morals, and I consider myself to be a Christian. Yes, I am also gay, and I think God loves me no less for that."

Ingram says she used to speak highly of Myrtle Grove Christian School, but won't anymore. She plans to marry her fiancee next October.

Officials at Myrtle Grove Christian School said they would only respond to questions through e-mail. We have not heard back from administrators.

Can someone please tell me

Can someone please tell me why Christians seem to single out homosexuality. I mean I understand that you might think its wrong, but you might as well start kicking out student's who lie at home... Well, that I'm pretty sure would be all of them right....

Its been my opinion that Christians are loosing relevance in today's world. These are absurd things they do/create to keep control of a vanising base! Its so absurd how Christians pick and choose. They have lost touch with reality and also what they should stand for. It's quite desperate on their part!

There are bigger problems in the world than sticking your nose in the business of someone's homes life. And children should not be punished for it regardless. This school and schools like it must be moronic. I mean, even if their parents were "gay", the fact that they have the courage to still send their children to a christian school shows their love for God!!

You would have thought they talked about homosexuality in every chapter of every book of the bible, the way modern Christians are so gunho about that subject.

Has God Changed

Have we forgotten Jesus is also the Lion of the Tribe of Judah and as such is the judge of this world. It does not matter what I personally think or believe, thaat judgement will come. Has God chanaged? If so, then He is not God. God is immutable, meaning He is unchangeable, Malachi 3:6. Is it possible we as a society have "made God" into the imaage we desire Him to be? For a truly Christian perspective on homosexuality, I suggest you seek out the account of the life of Rosia Butterfield. If your mind is searching and seeking, this would be good for anyone seeking truth. If ones mind is closed, won't matter.
Book Description
Publication Date: November 15, 2013
Rosaria, by the standards of many, was living a very good life. She had a tenured position at a large university in a field for which she cared deeply. She owned two homes with her partner, in which they provided hospitality to students and activists that were looking to make a difference in the world. In the community, Rosaria was involved in volunteer work. At the university, she was a respected advisor of students and her department's curriculum.

Then, in her late 30's, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down--the idea that Christianity, a religion she had regarded as problematic and sometimes downright damaging, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could.

Where is the Church Standing???

I have read a lot of comments, but have not seen the Church take a stand. Yes the Church is separate from the school. But REALLY? You have heard a lot of talk. But when the school is located in the church property than school truly represents the church! So where are they at with this issue! Maybe its because they know that they should replace the principle for his actions for giving not only the school but the church a bad name! Mr. Miller you should humble yourself and resign your position! New Leadership is needed to speak for everyone so the big question is where is the Myrtle Grove Pastor is all this?

I have also read that the school does not accept school vouchers, the voucher program is Tax payer money!

When do other letters go home??? Hypocrites...

When do they send home the letters banning children whose parents eat pork and shellfish, have tattoos, associate with women who are menstruating, shave their beard, become drunk on fortified wine, commit adultery, bear false witness, covet their neighbors ass, fail to honor the Sabbath, etc. etc. etc.

I agree with the school - mostly.

Yes the school has the right to admit who they want since they are a private school. Yadda, yadda, yadda. But if I were them, I would have waited until a group of 45 students decided to have a loud and boisterous PRIDE meeting in the cafeteria during lunch. I mean really, did the school HAVE a problem with disruptions or are they trying to create problems for themselves? Let's not kid ourselves - school is a type of training - for the work force. If it will not go over in school then chances are excellent that it will not go over in the work place. If parents would look at the situation THAT way, they would see that being able to stand up in the middle of class and shout, "I'M GAY AND I'M PROUD!" should be LAST on the children's list of "what I can do" or better - not make the list AT ALL!

myrtle grove charter school

Under NC's voucher program this school will be receiving tax payer money to preach bigotry and hate. If it was a totally private and independently financed school, ok. But it is not and people who are gay and bi-sexual will be financing children being taught to hate the life of the people who are paying their tuition. That is flat nuts and also it is what is wrong with the voucher program.

Says it all... sadly

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
Mahatma Gandhi

Myrtle Grove Christian School

This country is going to hell and the likes of those who gathered to protest are but the fuel propelling us to that final destination. God help us and most importantly God help MGCS.

Please understand

I would like to clear a few things up. I am a mother of a child at this school. Up to this point, I have loved what this school stands for and the education my child has received has been amazing.

Parents received this letter Wednesday night and by Thursday it was in the news. Some of the parents hadn't even read the email yet. We had no idea that this policy was even being considered. We had no say in it being put into place. Some of us found out about it after it was already on the news.

Please understand that many of us do not agree with the policy, but we have to take a moment to figure out our next move. We expect and deserve answers about why this happened. We have children who go to school with teachers and children that they love. When you have a small child, it isn't just as easy as telling them one day "you don't go to that school anymore, you can't see your friends or teachers now". We have to deal with the hand that has been dealt to us. My child has NEVER been taught anything about hate or judging others from anyone in this school. If anything, I think she has learned more about tolerance and understanding than she could have elsewhere.

I can say that many of the parents I know would never approve of this policy. We are Christians, we believe in the Bible, but are loving and compassionate people. We want our school to be a place where people are welcome to learn about God and His love for all of us.

Please know that it affects our children when people are saying awful things about their school. It hurts them. They are amazing children who had no part in this decision and will ultimately have little or no part in what their parents choose to do with this. Just know that when you are "judging" the school, parents, teachers, and children that attend this school, you are doing the same thing you are claiming to be upset about. You are judging and hating a group of people that you really know nothing about.

I may not support this policy and my child will not stay in this school if it is put into place, but in the meantime, think about how your words can hurt. The point of all of this is that we should all love one another. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone sins and everyone deserves forgiveness.

It's a private Christian school. They can make their own rules and regulations. Period.

NOT a private school

Under NC law they will be receiving tax payer money in the form of vouchers. Taxpayers should not be forced to pay for religious schools which is what this school is.

No Wonder...

Directed to all Extremist whether religious...or simply Redneck:

The Wilmington 10 started in your most prejudice city, and now we know why.
Wilmington was the only city I had ever lived in, that was so far behind times...I expected the news people to announce (any time/and still do) that someone had invented something called "The Wheel"...or that NASA had landed a man on the moon...and I'm speaking about over the past couple of years.

To top things have a news agency that digs for garbage news the reporters know will stir up prejudice by the droves...then sit back and pat themselves on the backs for an "Award Winning Job Well Done". Your stories that dig up such garbage as you do, sounds more like KKK on the spot reporting, than an Award Winning News Agency. No wonder your Anchor guy Chris is leaving ;-)

Your citizens criticize other's lifestyles to the extreme (In the name of your Jesus)...only because you are extremely dissatisfied with your own lives/plus need a mythological figure to fall back on...and strike out at others built on hatred and prejudices...all along claiming and quoting words from a book called the Bible, which you have transformed into your own handwritten definitions as you see fit...then preach it!

You folks won't/can't even vote out corruption in your City Hall...just so you will have something to BITCH ABOUT! That's obvious. And you talk about how others invade your perfect lifestyles. Hilarious!!

Wilmington...reading your news stories and public Forum remarks like I do, just to see how much more "unprogressive...prejudice" that city is evolving into since my families departure...just one favor to ask for the people of the rest of this country. Whether it be your neighboring states...or as far away as Alaska or Hawaii..."Keep your lifestyle within your perimeters, continue to wallow in it, and hopefully Google will strike your news out of their search engine". The rest of the world could only hope!

Better yet...stay where you are, and if you want to strike out at someone for their beliefs and I am!! Leave your next door neighbors Alone!

How about this?

OK this is really going to stir the pot, just a thought though, not taking sides, because I get it for both sides. Gay people are still people? OK and the private school has a "right" to discriminate based on their beliefs? Not sure, that is where law comes in. So what if a school was saying that they did not want anyone of a certain race in their school? Would that be OK? Don't they have a "right" to do that?So to side with the "gay" for a second, I ask, "Are we not all god's children?" as you holly rollers like to say. And to side with the church for a second, being in a free country, I feel you should be able to discriminate all you want to. So this comes down to being a business decision on the churches part, after all churches are business anyway. Cater to those you want and try to discourage those you don't. Advice to the gay, just go where you are accepted. Why would you want to go where you are not accepted. Ok, I'm done. For the record, I am not gay. Gay people don't bother me. That is there decision, choice, or problem depending on how you look at it. Does not concern me. Peace!

Christian kooks at it again.

Christian kooks at it again. When can we label the Christian religion as a hate group like the KKK.

Thumpers and Leftists

You thumpers and leftists deserve each other, you also need each other to obtain and maintain energy. Fact, there are gays within the ranks of the thumpers and there are conservatives within the ranks of gays, this upsets both groups. It all became clear to me when I realized that extreme leftists and thumpers are horns on the same bull. Judge not.

Why are you singling out MGCS? There are at least 5 other Christian schools in the area that have the same policy. Why not attack them all? Could it be that this is a “Tactic” used by the media and the left to push an issue? “Attack and destroy your enemies one at a time and the will submit little by little”. This isn’t news; this is just creating a good “BLOG” to let people spew their hateful comments towards Christians. I expect TV 3 will do a story next week about how the Muslims and their meeting places are so forgiving and welcoming the Gay life style into their worship groups. STEP UP TV3 and do a real story about that this whole thing about HATING Christians is getting kind of old after 2000 years!

So along this logic, could

So along this logic, could we just have an all white school? You know, cause its private...

About Time

About time some one stand up to GAY PEOPLE and not get scared if they get a law suit put on them. Question 1. where in the Bible can God support gay people I thought that that city was destroyed by fire? Question 2. what part of the Bible does the Gay people read from and even better get married from? Being Gay is a SIN PEROID!!!!!!! CONGRATS MGCS stand your ground.

Ohhhh...I see.

So, sinners should not be allowed in the school?

That would be one empty building.

I once heard that church is not for perfect people. It is for the sinners who seek forgiveness and knowledge on how to become better people.

Who is picking the fight?

I find it very disturbing and hypocritical of the LGBT community to preach tolerance and understanding and yet trying to use force, fear tactics and intimidation and demand the Christian community to accept their lifestyle. I'm sorry but you can call folks whatever you need to call them, it doesn't really make a difference. To violate your personal core values and faith in exchange for social acceptance is the greater sin. Where did all the tolerance go from their end? If you really preach tolerance as you suggest others should, why are you all upset?

So if a parent of a student at this school has an affair, will they kick the student out? Because the parent is not living a Godly lifestyle?

you do have a point there i was thinking the same thing. They have really opened a can of worms here.

It is a private school so if they want to they can, it's their choice.

Myrtle Grove Christian School

It amazes me that homosexuals are allowed to have there beliefs but non homosexuals are not. Myrtle Grove Christian School Christian being the key word here is a private school, that teaches christian values. Why do Christians get ridiculed for there beliefs but all the non christian's can do whatever they want with no remorse. I support Myrtle Groves decision 110%. It is time that Christians stop cowering to bullies and stand up for our beliefs!!!!!!!!!

It is a sad day for human

It is a sad day for human rights. Human being the key word here. I believe that all people are entitled to believe whatever and however they want to. But as a christian it is important to remember that God loves everyone. Many gay people are Christians and many straight people are Christians. It is not an issue of homosexuals or heterosexuals being allowed to have their beliefs, because both do and both are allowed to. But it is when children are excluded simply because of their parents sexuality. It is the same thing as excluding children who come from abusive families, biracial families, single parent families and so on. If every child who has parents with sin within their lives was asked to leave the school, their would be no one left. I've never heard of an innocent child being the cause of their parents being gay or anything else for that matter. This is not a case of morality, it is a case of exclusion and hidden agendas. When some of these children grow up and come out as gay, I fear for what they will face.

Not a private school

As long as they receive voucher money under NC law they are NOT a private school. Taxpapers pay for the school - LGBT and other taxpayers.

If you read the comments, you will see that all the HATE is coming from the GAY crowd. I guess you don't have the right to be who you want to be unless you agree with the other side.

The gays are worse than the blacks using the "race card"...

...regarding the use of the "hate" word in reference to homosexuality.
The fact is, NOBODY has posted any words of hate related to homosexuals, they simply explain their "disagreement" with that lifestyle. The gays want to call it "hate" to draw attention to themselves and purposely isolate them from the rest.

Society is forced into acceptance of homosexuality by our government while our Christian values still see that behavior as abnormal. Do whatever you want to do, but just leave me out of it and be on your way. Don't try to force anything on me including the fact that you want everyone to believe your sexual orientation is normal.

You want your rights, but you don't want anyone else to have theirs or to be able to have their beliefs do you? You think the entire world is supposed to succumb to YOUR lifestyle, right? You're a very selfish and ignorant lot of mis-fits aren't you? You're very luck to have the tolerance that is provided to you, but you'll never gain the acceptance that you wish so badly for...ever. Perhaps it that solid fact in itself that keeps all of you so pissed off with those of us that disagree with you!

school choices

This is a private Christian school. You don't have to send your child there if you don't like their beliefs. Plenty of parents do want their children brought up with Bible based christian values and chose to pay plenty of money to send them to private schools with their own family set of values. so what are you lesbian, gays and bi sexuals whining about?
Not all of us approvew of your lifestyle anymore then you might approve of ours. It's called freedom. and for now, anyhow, a Christian school in America still has the freedom to choose to teach christian values. Like I said you don't have to send you child there if you are raising them being taught to say my 2 mommies or my 2 daddies. This school is not practicing hate or prejudice. You missed the part of the news story that said "Private Christian school"!

If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything

While we are tempted to think it is somehow wrong for MGCS to stand fast in the face of criticism, in fact what the Principal stands for is the Truth. And sometimes the truth hurts.
