WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In downtown Wilmington, the city Christmas tree is in a new location this year.

Instead of its traditional home in Riverfront Park, it is across the street in the open lot at the corner of Princess and Water streets.

The city had to change spots because of weight restrictions in the park due to work on the bulkhead underneath. Kim Adams with the city says the Christmas tree has a two-ton concrete block anchoring it.

When work is done, future events will move back to Riverfront Park.

TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE? THE ONLY ONE I KNOW OF WAS AT HILTON,THE REST ARE WHATEVER. COULDN’T CARE LESS WHERE IT IS. ITS WISHY WASHY AS IS THE CITY COUNCIL.

Not that intense. Just trolling the troll.

Your obviously not a Christian, and it’s highly unlikely you’re a pagan (that also being religious), so what’s it to you?

I suspect that what it really is to you is that you’re an angry little person who just lashes out at others once in a while in a desperate misguided attempt to feel better about yourself. Too bad that ultimately results in just feeling worse.

    My condolences.

I don’t think that WWAY is required to call it a holiday tree just because that is what the politicians use.

  • Guest-o-matic says:

With all the PC crap the city does, I thought they would call it a “holiday” tree, like the city “holiday” parade. Don’t wanna be offending the jews, muslims, buddists, kawanzas, etc by using the “C” word!

  • 10101 says:

Apparently, the gutless wonders of last year have decide to do the right thing this holiday season.

“Kim Adams with the city says the Christmas tree ….. ” Unless WWAY is putting words in her mouth, the city is calling it a Christmas Tree.

With all of the other crap going on around here, there’s plenty to post about without trotting out last year’s news.

If they crap out and change their mind, that’s the time for jumping on something like this. Otherwise, just leave it alone.

I get your sarcasm, but there is no need to stir the pot. Just be happy that its still called a Christmas Tree this year, because you would have been one of the first to complain if they called it a “Holiday Tree”.

The city of wilmington does call this a “holiday tree.” WWAY got it wrong

  • boldizar says:

Such a nice symbol of the pagans whom you christians stole most of your ideas.

  • average joe says:

Whether it was Wilmington or WWAY it is good to see “Christmas” whether it refers to a tree or a parade. If it was intentional – congratulations. If it was an error – don’t retract.

  • Guesteasy says:

That is not a tree, its a green cone. Horrible fake tree. Wheres the fake Hanukkah stuff?

  • Vog46 says:

Forget the Christ in Christmas arguments for a minute.

did a city spokesperson just say the tree was moved because the ground underneath couldn’t support 4,000 pounds (2 tons)?

Are the bulk head problems THAT bad?

    And rightly so!

What “holiday” other than Christmas uses a conifer as part of it’s symbology?

    Answer: None, zero, zippo, nada…

Therfore, we call it what it “IS”. We refer to it as to what it “IS”, not candy-pat it down to some PC nomenclature to appease the whiners that miss out because they happen to believe differently. They can go get their minora, or their fat buddah, their sacred cow, their 50 virgins or whatever it is that makes them happy.

    I want my “Christmas” tree!
