WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Habitat for Humanity continues building a way to burn off some calories so you can have extra dessert on Thanksgiving.

Habitat is hosting a 5K run and one-mile walk Thanksgiving morning.

The organization hopes the 9th Annual Turkey Trot will raise $45,000 toward building another home.

Organizers say it’s a great way to kick-off the holiday season.

“The Turkey Trot is an amazing event, because you don’t know what you are going to see,” Habitat Development Coordinator Rachel Lacoe said. “We have people that dress up in turkey suits, their Dogs are dressed up, their babies are dressed up. It is just a fun family event.”

The event starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wrightsville Beach Loop. Things should wrap around 10 a.m., so you can get back to the kitchen.
