Man crashes near Cape Fear Memorial Bridge trying to flee from deputies


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- An 18-year-old Carolina Shores man faces charges after crashing near the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge Saturday night.

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was attempting to pull Dale James Voigt over for speeding on Highway 17 in Leland when he fled toward Wilmington, and crashed near the bridge.

Voigt is charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding arrest with a motor vehicle, and failure to wear a seat belt.

He is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Facility under $10,500 bond.
