National Weather Service confirms tornado in Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, NC (WCTI) -- The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Atlantic Beach.

It was an EF2 tornado, and had wind speeds between 111 to 135 mph, according to the NWS.

In addition to Atlantic Beach, NWS teams will also be in Morehead City, Riverdale and Richlands to survey the damage.

Pictured above is the damage at Ocean Sands Condominiums in Atlantic Beach. Parts of the building's roof have been ripped off or caved in. Two people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
