Wilmington Pop Warner squad one step closer to championships

Update: The Coastal Cowboys won on Saturday 28-6. The Wilmington based team will now travel to Disney to compete in the national Pop Warner tournament.

WILMINGTON, NC, (WWAY) -- Last year, a Jr. Midget Pop Warner football team based out of Wilmington played in the national championship tournament in Florida. And this week, another Wilmington squad is just one victory away from making that same trip.

In order to play in the National Pop Warner football championship in Florida next month, the Coastal Cowboys have to win on Saturday in Raleigh against a team from Columbia, South Carolina.

"These guys have been working very hard since Aug. 1, and they're excited to play in a mid-south championship game," said Keith Hatcher, the Cowboy's head coach.

The mid-south championship winner will make the trip to Disney world, as long as they can afford the involved expenses.
