WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Christmas time is upon us now that Thanksgiving is nearly over. For many people, that starts with buying a tree.
At the Optimist Club’s tree lot at the Kmart in Wilmington on Thursday, volunteers said they had a few families come by and sold about 10 trees. They said the sales really pick up in the two days after Thanksgiving.
While the goal is to raise money for their organization, some volunteers said the best part is watching people who are excited about the season.
“It’s fun seeing the kids come out. That’s a big part of it them looking around and finding the trees. So, that’s fun. Us three have been out here since this morning so we’ve had a pretty full day of it,” said Curtis Keith, an Optimist Club member and tree lot volunteer.
The Optimist Club has 731 Christmas trees total and will keep its lots open until they sell out. The organization also has a lot at Hugh MacRae Park. Those lots are just two of many places where you can get a fresh, real Christmas tree.
