BEREA, OH (AP) - Browns defensive end Desmond Bryant will undergo a surgical procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat and miss the remainder of the season.

The Browns said Bryant, who signed a five-year, $34 million contract in March, reported symptoms Monday. He was taken out of an Oct. 3 game against Buffalo and was briefly hospitalized at The Cleveland Clinic with an irregular heartbeat.

Bryant will undergo the procedure this week, the team said.

The 27-year-old started all 12 games this season and made 45 tackles and 3 1-2 sacks.

The Browns placed him on the reserve/non-football illness list. Bryant played the last four seasons with Oakland before signing with the Browns as a free agent.

Bryant was not on the practice field Wednesday and the team only disclosed his injury following the workout.

WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW) -- Sophomore forward Katrina Guillou was named a Third-Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Wednesday.

Guillou becomes just the third player in program history to earn NSCAA All-Region accolades, joining former standouts Stephanie Rose (First Team - 2012) and Megan Novak (Third Team - 2009) on the exclusive list.

"This is a fantastic honor for Katrina and our team," said UNCW Head Coach Paul Cairney. "There are a tremendous amount of talented players on these all-region teams and I am excited for Katrina to be in this company. As with any individual award, Katrina shares this honor with her teammates."

A First-Team All-CAA selection, Guillou enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign that saw her pace the Seahawks in goals (10), assists (6) and points (26) as she ranked among the top five players in the CAA in all three categories. A native of Ft. Washington, Md., Guillou took part in all 19 games for the Seahawks this season and finished the campaign with points in 11 of the team's final 15 contests.

UNCW completed the 2013 season with a 9-10-0 overall record. The Seahawks advanced to the CAA Women's Soccer Championship for the 13th time in program history, falling to defending champion Hofstra on the road in the first round.

WILMINGTON, NC (HAMMERHEADS) -- The Wilmington Hammerheads have officially announced the re-signing of defender Tom Parratt for the 2014 USL PRO regular season. Parratt will return to the Hammerheads for his fourth consecutive season.

"I am delighted to be back for next year," said Parratt. "Wilmington is my home now and I could not be happier. I am looking forward to seeing who we bring in and getting our preseason underway."

Last season, Parratt appeared in 19 regular season matches with the Hammerheads while playing a combination of both defender and midfielder. Tallying a team-high of six assists, Parratt was ranked sixth overall in USL PRO for assists leaders in 2013.

Parratt spends his time during the offseason coaching youth soccer programs with Cape Fear Soccer Club in Wilmington.

"Tom is very involved within the community," said David Irving, Wilmington Hammerheads Head Coach. "He is well-liked and receives a great response from the fans after being with the team for three seasons. He is a great add to the squad with his versatility on the field."

Born in Inverness, Scotland and raised in Iowa City, Iowa, Tom Parratt made his debut with the Hammerheads in 2011. Prior to relocating to Wilmington and joining the Hammerheads, Parratt returned to Scotland in August 2009 to join Airdrie United for a season. In August 2008, Parratt was with Queen of the South Football Club after finishing his two-year stint with Hamilton Academical in 2006 and establishing himself as the club's first-choice right back.

ACC BIG TEN CHALLENGE
6-6 tie

EAST LANSING, MI (AP) - J.P. Tokoto had 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to help North Carolina beat No. 1 Michigan State 79-65 Wednesday night, giving the Tar Heels another impressive victory in their inconsistent season.

The Tar Heels (5-2) have been talented enough to defeat the top-ranked Spartans and then-No. 3 Louisville this season, but they've also lost to Belmont and UAB.

Michigan State (7-1) fell to an unranked nonconference team at home for the first time in more than a decade.

The Tar Heels took control from the start, never trailed and used a 12-1 run to take a 65-52 lead with 6:02 left.

Kennedy Meeks scored 15 points for North Carolina and Brice Johnson had 14. Marcus Paige and Nate Britt added 13 apiece.

Gary Harris had 17 points and Keith Appling scored 13, but both Michigan State guards missed 10 of 15 shots.

RALEIGH, NC (AP) - T.J. Warren scored 22 points to help North Carolina State beat Northwestern 69-48 on Wednesday night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Ralston Turner added 13 points for the Wolfpack (5-2), who led nearly all night and by as many as 23 points after halftime. N.C. State shot 46 percent to win its third straight overall, while the win against Northwestern (4-5) stopped a five-game losing streak in the annual interconference matchup.

Warren had 16 points by the break and flirted with his third straight 30-point outing before cooling off after halftime. But he got plenty of help, led by freshman Lennard Freeman posting season-highs with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Drew Crawford scored 17 to lead the Wildcats and first-year coach Chris Collins, who was making a return to the region after spending the past 13 years as an assistant to Duke's Mike Krzyzewski in nearby Durham.
