WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two big retailers are on the way to Mayfaire.

Developers say Marshalls and Dick's Sporting Goods will be the two newest stores added to the 400-acre retail complex.

A Dick's manager says they will open a brand new store in Mayfaire, while Marshalls says they will move from their current location off New Centre Drive to Mayfaire once construction of the new store is complete.

Dick's will occupy 50,000 square feet of the center, while Marshalls will take up 24,000 square feet.

Developers say a third anchor store near Dick's and Marshalls will be announced soon.

Some neighboring businesses say they are thrilled by the news. Sarah Smith, manager at Ultra Tan, says she hopes the new stores will attract more business.

"There's always so many cars at Marshalls and at Dick's," Smith said. "There's going to be so many people coming, so hopefully they'll just start walking down and look at all the stores, and get more customers in here."

The grand opening is expected November 2014.

business development at the new Wilmington retail central. IS it time to turn all of downtown into a park?

Degradation of Wilmington’s retail and commercial scene cannot be ignored. Mayfaire is the new epicenter of the Wilmington retail scene and the mass exodus of retailers from Wilmington proper continues un-abated.
Down town is failing
Even market street is failing.
No one to move into the Old Chicago pizza building?
Sticky Fingers get torn down and we get a car wash next to Hooters? At THAT intersection?

Sorry but all efforts at economic development have failed IMHO
