CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Pet owners wanting to take their furry friends for a walk on the sand may have some new rules to follow next year.
Town Council will take a look at the ordinance which permits pets on the beach in hopes of creating consistency between Carolina Beach and Kure Beach rules.
"Visitors to the area say the rules are not consistent between the two beach stands, which is true. That is why we want to clarify and make it easier to manage that and enforce it," said Town Manager Mike Cramer.
The proposed change would alter the dates people can have their pets on the beach and would mirror the Kure Beach ordinance. There, it is unlawful for a dog to be on the beach from the beginning of April to the end of September.
Carolina Beach's current ordinance says animals cannot be on the beach from March 1 thru Oct. 31. In addition, the Carolina Beach Council will consider prohibiting animals from public restrooms, concession stands and athletic fields.
There will be a public hearing on this ordinance on Jan. 14.
